The Safety Officer’s primary aim is to lead establishing and maintaining industry best operational safety standards in the Victorian Collections business.  The business operates a fleet of some 100 trucks across seven transport hubs across Melbourne, as well as a waste equipment manufacturing and refurbishment centre.

 

This role is a 12 month fixed term contract offering up to $125k Package.

 

Location Of Role:

 

  • To be based at one of the Melbourne hubs, with regular travel to each site 

 

About The Role: 

 

  • Assist in the operational implementation of BINGO’s Safety Management System, including BINGO’s Zero Harm Rules 

  • Ensure appropriate hazard identification, risk assessments and effective control measures are in place, focusing on standard work 

  • Conduct monthly SEQ audits 

  • Conduct CFA verifications, safety conversations and hazard assessments 

  • Support with regulatory or other stakeholder (e.g. unions) visits 

  • Work with leaders to develop an understanding of and responsibility for managing safety issues 

  • Ensure standard work procedures (either SWMS or Work Instructions) are in place and effective 

  • Proactively engage with frontline leaders, team members to provide guidance and support the implementation of risk management controls 

  • Assist in incident management and incident investigations 

  • Assist in the management of the BINGO incident management system (Intelex) 

  • Assist in facilitating alcohol and drug testing where required 

  • Coordinate, facilitate and manage Victorian Collections Safety Forum Meetings 

  • Support scheduling, content and delivery of toolbox and start-up meetings   

  • Assist managing any injuries including Recovery at Work and Rehabilitation programs including the development of suitable duties program 

  • Conduct in site inductions where required 

  • Conduct safety training for drivers, other than driving duties 

  • Maintain site Traffic and Pedestrian Management Plans and Emergency Management Plans 

  • Identify activities and/or workplace conditions that may pose a risk to the health and safety of our workers. Take appropriate and timely actions to identified risk is managed. 

  • Any other duty as reasonably directed 

  • Carry out all duties in line with BINGO’s policies, procedures and processes as amended from time to time  

  • Work with the National Collections Safety Business Partner to develop and deliver WHS programmes 

  • Promote WHS programs to all workers 

  • Collaborate with driver trainers and assessors, and National Transport Compliance Manager on COR and related requirements 

 

About You: 

 

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety and/or prior experience in a similar role 

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting safety audits  

  • Demonstrated experience in analysis and interpretation of safety data  

  • Demonstrated experience in safety initiatives as well as the evaluation of outcomes 

  • Demonstrated experience working within a multi-disciplinary team  

  • Demonstrated experience in the use of Microsoft Office packages 

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present training sessions 

  • Demonstrated experience in, or strong knowledge of management systems including ISO 45001 or similar 

  • An understanding of the transport industry, and possibly the waste/recycling industry  

  • Experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and ISO 9001 Quality Management System highly regarded
